A sanctuary only gets the green seal once we have seen all of the following points. We deliberately say what a check is not: ongoing supervision. It is a snapshot as of the stated date.
At least one of us has visited the sanctuary and seen the animals.
Stables, runs and places to retreat to suit the kind and number of animals.
There is a permanent link to a vet, and the animals are cared for.
The sanctuary can permanently cover the running costs of the animals it takes in.
Animals taken in stay — the sanctuary is not an intermediary.
We have a fixed contact person and actually reach them.
We have expressly not checked listed sanctuaries. We know of them, no more than that. All details in the directory come from the sanctuaries themselves. If anything strikes you: tell us.
