Right now – three steps

  1. Secure the scene without endangering yourself

Keep your distance and stay calm; on a road switch on your hazard lights. An injured animal bites and scratches out of fear – only touch it if you must. Do not feed it.

  2. Report it – with your location

Our form sends your report with location and photo to our on-call team. It takes about a minute.

  3. Life in danger: call 110 or 112

Animal on the carriageway, in water, in a locked hot car, or danger to people: call the police (110) or the fire brigade (112) immediately.

Who is responsible locally

Found animals

For found dogs, cats and other pets the municipality where the animal was found is responsible – here: Kraiburg a.Inn. Contact the public order office (Ordnungsamt) or citizens’ office; at night and at weekends the police will help.

Animal welfare offences

Report neglected or abused animals to the veterinary office (Veterinäramt). Responsible: Landkreis Mühldorf am Inn.

Wild animals

Do not touch or take injured game (deer, wild boar, fox) – the police (110) will inform the responsible hunter. For hedgehogs, birds and other small wild animals there are wildlife and hedgehog rescue centres.

What we can do

Tierrettungsverein Ashanti is a volunteer network of helpers, drivers, foster homes and sanctuaries – not a control centre with vehicles in every town. When your report arrives, we see from the location who in the network is nearby. If we can only advise, we tell you so honestly and name the right authority.

  • Our association is based in Marktredwitz – about 206 km from here as the crow flies.
  • There is no sanctuary nearby in our directory yet. Register a sanctuary

Hedgehogs

Young hedgehogs have to put on winter fat now. One that is out in daylight, staggers or weighs clearly under 500 grams at the beginning of November will not make it through hibernation alone.

What you can do

  • Leave piles of leaves and brushwood where they are – that is their winter home.
  • Run robotic mowers only in daylight, never at dusk or at night.
  • In dry weather put out a shallow bowl of water. No milk – hedgehogs cannot digest it.

Deer, wild boar and foxes on the road

When the clocks change, rush hour falls into dusk – exactly when wild animals cross. Most wildlife collisions happen in autumn and spring.

What you can do

  • Slow down along woods and fields, especially in the morning and evening.
  • If an animal is at the roadside: dip your lights, sound the horn, brake. Do not swerve.
  • After a collision secure the scene and call the police (110) – they inform the responsible hunter.

Stray cats and their kittens

Most kittens are born in spring and autumn – many outdoors, without shelter. Autumn kittens are hit hardest by wet and cold.

What you can do

  • Have your own outdoor cats neutered, microchipped and registered.
  • Do not chase away a mother cat with young and do not simply take the kittens – call us or the local animal welfare group first.
  • Report shy, thin or sick cats so they can be caught, treated and neutered.
